Mangaluru: Renowned cardiologist and former vice-chancellor of Manipal University Dr B M Hegde inaugurated Mangaluru Academy of Refined Studies (MARS) at Bejai Church hall, Mangaluru on Saturday, June 4.
Addressing the gathering Dr B M Hegde lamented that the education system, which was supposed to bring the best out of students is at present reducing students to being mere mud pots.
“The education system today makes students isolated from the outside world to the extent that many students are unaware of what is happening around them. Education must create vibrant, healthy minds,” he said.
However, pointing out the system that MARS speaks of , Dr Hegde said that at MARS, their emphasis is to make learning as interactive as possible so that the student explores new dimensions of knowledge.
He opined that students must be taught to compete with oneself rather than competing with others as this leads to excellence.
Fr Robert D’souza, principal of Lourdes Central School presided over the programme.
MARS Managing Director Dr Reena Alva, Academics Director Praveen Kumar, CFTRI Scientist Kollegal Sharma, EWRG Scientist Harish Bhat, ISRO Scientist Anil Alva among others were present.
