Bantwal: A Bhatkal-based man who ventured into river for a bath drowned near Kakkebettu in Sajipanadu village here on Saturday, June 5.

Abdul Razaq(38) is the deceased. Married to Zainaba from Sajipanadu seven years ago, he had settled here since then.

On Saturday, Razaq at around 5pm stepped into the river for a bath, but drowned. Immediately the locals who learnt about the incident rushed to rescue him but their efforts went in vain.

Swimming experts Arif, Altaf, gram panchayath members Rasheed, Ibrahim, Abubakker Kadavu retrieved the body at around 8.30pm.

The deceased has left behind two daughters and wife.

Bantwal rural police station ASI A K Rakshith Gowda and fire personnel too joined in lifting the body.
