Man gets seven years in prison for sexual assault

Mangaluru: An sexual accused has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with fine of Rs. 10,000 by the VI Additional District and Sessions Court on Wednesday.

Shashi (31) of Narimogaru village, accused of sexually assaulting a 22 year old woman after promising her of marriage.

The verdict was pronounced by the Judge, D.T. Puttarangaswamy.

According to the chargesheet, Shashi went to the house of the woman and raped her on May 19, 2014, after promising to marry her. Based on the victim’s complaint, Shashi was arrested by the Kadaba police, along with two of his friends who helped him to escape. While convicting Shashi under Sections 376 and 417 of the IPC, the Judge had, on Monday, acquitted Vishwanath and Mahesha.
