Police constable suspended for assaulting shopkeeper

Bengaluru: A police constable attached to Chickpet police station (law & order) has been suspended for allegedly assaulting and threatening a shopkeeper for money.

The police constable has been identifed as Mahantesh Hiremath, attached to Chickpet police station. He was suspended after a formal complaint was lodged against him.

According to police, the constable used to threaten the shopkeeper for money and when the latter refused he used to threaten to file false complaints against him. Meanwhile, a worker of the shop approached the senior police officials and lodged a complaint against Mahantesh for manhandling and assaulting his owner.

The matter was brought to the notice of the senior police officers. DCP West Labhu Ram who ordered an internal inquiry into the case suspended Mahantesh.
