Man gets life term for raping aged woman

Mangaluru: The VI Additional District and Sessions Judge S.H. Pushpanjali Devi on Thursday sent a 25-year old labourer to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 69-year old woman.

According to the charge sheet filed by the Mangalore Rural police, the accused Nagesh raped the woman in Alape, Padil on 13, 2013.

He was also charged with robbing the woman of her gold ornaments and Rs. 5,000 in cash.

The police said Nagesh was working for a contractor in constructing a house for the woman’s daughter. The woman was alone in the house when the incident took place.

As per the case details, Nagesh entered the house and threatened her by showing knife and attempted to rape her. The old woman pleaded Nagesh saying he was younger than her own children and she should not to be subjected to misery as she was old. The accused did not stop. The woman again told Nagesh that she was not well. But the accused raped her with biting her on her face and lips. Then the accused took Rs 50,000 worth jewellery and Rs.5,500 cash from the woman’s house and fled.

The neighbors later come to the woman’s house. A police complaint on the rape was lodged at Mangaluru rural police station.

Hence, the Judge convicted Nagesh for rape, robbery, crimincal intimidation and trespass. Nagesh was sentenced to life imprisonment, the maximum punishment for rape. The Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 12,000, to be given as compensation to the victim.
