Udupi: A resident of Pavoor village has been convicted in a case of obtaining passport by producing fake documents. The Third JMFC Court has sentenced him to one year imprisonment on January 28.
The court held Syed alias Mallar Syed Mustafa guilty under section 471 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 12 (1) (b) of Passport Act 1967 for obtaining a fake passport by submitting fictitious address in Shirva of Udupi taluk.
Syed also had forged the transfer certificate of a school in Shirva and ration card. It is learnt that earlier Syed’s wife who was in good terms with him later developed misunderstanding. However, she was aware of her husband’s act of furnishing fake documents to obtain the passport in the year 2002, thus she brought this to the notice of Manipal police station in the year 2010.
The then Shirva PSI K R Naik had submitted the charge sheet against Syed in the court. The court sentenced him to one year imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1000. Public Prosecutor B Prakashchandra Shetty argued in favour of the prosecution.
