Bantwal : Sharif (24), a bachelor resident of Badanajo near Anilkatte Kadambu and a painter by profession, was thrashed by the public and handed over to the police on Friday July 11.   He had earlier attempted to outrage the modesty and sexually molest a young medical student who was walking towards her home in Kadambu Village near Vitla.

Reports say that the girl had visited a shop near Kadambu Daivasthana. Sharif followed her and at a lonely place, Bana, Shariff struck up a conversation with the student about her home, identity, where she had been, etc. The victim was evasive and tried to fend him off. The youth, who approached her from behind, allegedly caught hold of her hand and pulled her towards him. He also tried without success to rape her.  She instantly hit him with her umbrella and shouted for help. Locals came, chased him caught him and assaulted him.

This is not the first time for Sharif. Two years ago, the same thing had happened. Vittal police sub-inspector, T R Raghavendra  visited the spot and took the accused into custody.
