Kasargod: Malayalam popular actor Suresh Gopi who has been doing his yeomen service in preserving Indian indigenous breed of cows and sustaining district Kasargod cows, paid a visit to ‘Amrutadhara Goshala’ a cow shelter located near Perla, here on Wednesday August 28.
Amrutadhara Goshala was set up on November 6 2004, in the pristine surroundings of Bajakoodlu, near Perla, here by Hosanagar based Sri Ramachandrapura mutt under ‘Kamadugha project’ in order to protect Kasargod breed of cows and multiply them for posterity. The Goshala that was begun with 48 cows and 5 colts now has over 150 indigenous breed of cows that has been acclaimed by cow worshipers from across the nation and overseas. The Kasargod distinct breed of short-statured cow ‘Bangari’ has got a place in Limca Book of Records. Amrutadhara Goshala has been selected to present Breed Saviour – 2012 Award, by a service organization in New Delhi, in recognition of its sustained efforts in preserving the indigenous breed of cow.
Breed Saviour Award will be presented during the function scheduled to be held at Karnal, near New Delhi on March 8 to March 9 2014, by the service organization for extraordinary efforts in preserving different indigenous breeds of cows, buffaloes, goat, sheep etc.
The local breed that was aplenty in Kasargod district is threatened of extinction. These cows are most suitable for farming because they can be reared with a little investment. They consume less podder and their milk, urine and cow dung are of greater significance. Amrutadhara Goshala has bagged the Award for its Kamadugha project for sustaining these cows.
Amrutadhara Goshala has distributed over 400 cows to those dairy farmers through Indian Cow Bank. It has developed several medicines for different ailments, which were made out of cow’s urine and cow dung. Under NABARD funds, the Goshala has carried out census of cows in villages that come under 4 gram panchayats and compiled data of 200 super healthy cows. It has been involved in DNA research and offering free training to cow-based farming in Kasargod district. It’s owing to this yeomen service; Amrutadhara Goshala bagged the top Award.
The research is under way at Amrutadhara Goshala on A2 milk. It has organized Janajani programme during March 2014, besides its ongoing programmes to promote Kasargod breed of cow through Indian cow exhibitions, etc in all over Kerala.
The adjacent land of 8.04 acres was bought near Bajakoodlu to develop infrastructure at Amrutadhara Goshala, while foundation laying ceremony was held here on July 15 2013. It has been striving to create peoples’ awareness on Kamadugha project that has developed medicines for most common ailments, out of the urine and cow dung of indigenous cows. It has been attempting to improve the farming by rearing indigenous cows as agriculture is the backbone of our nation.
The Goshala has planned Goyatra from October 14 to 18 this year, across Kerala to educate the masses on popularizing Kamadugha project. The Yatra will begin at Anantapura in Kasargod district and conclude at Tiruvanantapuram on October 18 where a mega peoples’ awareness meet will be held. The Malayalam popular actor Suresh Gopi has arrived at Sri Ramachandrapura mutt, Peraje – Mani near here to meet Swami Raghaveshwara Bharati of Ramachandrapura mutt, to plan the preparations at Tiruvanantapuram in this regard.
Suresh Gopi was accompanied by media advisor Vijayakrishnan, who were offered information on Janani Janardhan – Goseva Samiti president Kuntar Ravish Tantri, Kamadugha project chief Krishnaprasad Yedappady, CAMPCO vice president Kolari Satischandra Bhandary, B G Jagdish Golittadka, Mulleria gram panchayat president B G Rama Bhat, Roopavani R Bhat, Mulleria gram panchayat publicity convener Govind Bhat Ballamule, Subramanya Prasad Nekkarekalaya, Sadanand Kommanda and others.
