Moodbidri : Four months after a poor woman was rendered destitute along with her kid after the revenue officials demolished her house on the pretext that it was raised on a government land at Moodukonaje, the Moodbidri Billawa Sangha with the help of the Billawa Ekikarana Samithi of Mangalore has already initiated the task of constructing a house for the distressed woman Malathi Poojarti thus giving her a fresh  lease of  life. The incident wherein the house was demolished with the help of police had taken place on March 18.

Within a few days after the incident, when no help came in from the authorities the Brahmashree Narayana Guru Seva Sangha and the Billawa Ekikarana Samithi purchased a  three cents land worth Rs 90,000 close by the disputed land. The house construction also commenced under the initiative of Poovappa Kunder, Moodbidri Billawa Sangha and Ravi Poojary, Secretary of the Ekikarana Samithi.

Today, a three RCC room house costing around Rs 4.5 lakhs is coming up at Moodukonaje village with the help of various Billawa organisations as well as donors.

Except for the labour charges and the iron rods required for the construction, all other expenses have been borne by the organisations.
Presently half of the works are complete and works costing Rs one lakh are to be completed, says Poovappa Kunder. He also appreciates the hard works put in by the Ekikarana Samithi leader Ravi Poojary.

In fact though the DC had visited the disputed spot at Moodukonaje, he too had said that the earlier house of Malathi was on a government land and a decision would be  taken after scrutiny. However, there was no progress after that.
