Mangaluru: The district unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested at the Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding the resignation of the 224 MLAs and 28 MPs of the state as their irresponsibility had led to Mahadayi verdict.
Speaking on the occasion an AAP member said that people of the state are fully aware that the state did not effectively represent itself, though a huge amount has been spent on legal expenses. The interim order of the Tribunal has come as a shock to the people. The people who vented their anger were beaten black and blue by the ruthless police.
AAP pointed out that, when the whole of Mumbai and Karnataka was in flames due to Mahadayi agitation, all the MPs and MLAs could have easily approached the PM with a request to intervene and settle the matter out of court, by applying pressure including threatening to resign their seats.
There are only 2 options left with the people of Karnataka to either get Mahadayi issue solved in the tribunal or by the interference of the Prime Minister. But even when the Mahadayi agitation took an ugly turn, the 17 MPs of BJP could have demanded for PM’s intervention and for a quick settlement out of court. What was disgusting was that these MPs are trying to justify the biased act of the PM. Congress and JD(S) MPs did not bother to raise this issue in the Parliament either, which was another shameful act, said a speaker.
AAP now demands that all 28 MPs should forget their political affiliation, stand united with the sole interest and pressurize the PM to immediately intervene and do justice to Karnataka in resolving Mahadayi issue. They warned, if the Centre does not act within seven days, the MPs and MLAs should submit their resignation letter without further delay. AAP further demanded that if MPs and MLAs fail to reach the need of the people, they should declare themselves unfit to serve people and give up politics.
AAP will organise protests involving people of every constituency. Protests are planned in front of each and every MP and MLA’s residence in the state.
