Moodbidri : A lorry driver of Padumarnadu who had escaped after ditching a young woman and promising to marry her, has been arrested by the police on January 13, Monday. The accused is Harish Poojari.

It  is learnt, he had befriended a  young woman from Beluvai Kana and had developed physical relationship with her after promising to marry her. Later, he had refused to marry her and had gone absconding. The  young woman had lodged a complaint  on June 10 accusing Harish of raping her.

When local police failed to arrest him due to political pressure, the woman had lodged a complaint with Mangalore Police Commissioner. Even the Human Rights and Corruption Prevention Association of Beluvai had demanded the arrest of the accused.

Harish has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
