Lokayukta raids unearth disproportionate assets of officials

Mangalore: The Lokayukta sleuths raided the house of Food and Civil Supplies Department Depot Manager M V Rajan Nambiar and Bantwal taluk office First Division Assistant Omprakash Hegde, simultaneously in Mangalore and Uppinangady on Wednesday January 29.

Both  the officers faced  charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known source of income.

According to the Lokayukta police, Nambiar owned a one-floor house at Yeyyadi. Nearly 600 grams of gold was found in the house along with cash worth Rs 90,000. He owned three cars and had almost Rs six lakhs in his account. The wealth found in the house is said to be 200 per cent more than the source of their income.

The police officials confirmed that they have not arrested Rajan but they have sought explanation on the wealth and property owned by him. Although they justified that if he fails to prove, measures will be taken to seize the property.

Meanwhile, the sleuths also raided the house of First Division Assistant Omprakash Hegde, at Uppinangady. He has 1,317 gram gold jewellery and Rs 10 lakh in his account. He also owns a few sites and vehicles. About 602 gram gold jewellery was found at home, and 715 gram gold jewellery was in the locker. His is also being questioned and has to prove the property and wealth records.

Lokayukta DySP Vittaldas Pai led the raids.

Mangalore: The Lokayukta investigators raided the residence of an officer of the Food and Civil Supplies Department in Mangalore on January 29, Wednesday. The residence of a government officer in Uppinangady too has been raided, say sources.

Reportedly it is known that the residence of Rajan Nambiar, Depot Manager of Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Department, located at Yeyyadi and the Food Department godown at Shaktinagar were raided.

The raid  was led by Lokayukta DySP Umesh Shet following several  complaints and allegation against Rajan Nambiar.

The residence of a Revenue officer in Uppinangady was also raided. Details are awaited.
