Lokayukta raids Gangolli port office

Kundapur: The Lokayukta officials of Udupi raided the Gangolli Port office on December 6, Friday following complaints of collection of  additional fee for boat licence renewal. An Assistant officer was apprehended and produced before the court. Unaccounted cash has also been seized from the office.

The arrested officer is Kishore Mada  of Mangalore origin. Complaints were heard since the past few years that  fishermen were asked to pay higher  fee, sometimes even more than ten times the actual fees for renewal of boat licence. The Lokayukta sleuths had maintained  a close watch on the office since the past few days and raided the place  on Friday.

The arrested officer has been remanded to judicial custody.
