Speaking to reporters here, the minister said power generation has reduced by 1000 mw in the state. The state which was generating 8,522 mw of electricity until now,  is now seeing a power generation of 7,572 mw. This has forced the government to resort to load shedding, he said adding  there would be power cuts for one to two hours a day in Bangalore north region. As for the rest of the state including rural areas, the  load shedding timings will be decided by the respective power supply companies, he said.

Here it is worth mentioning that the minister had stated on April 22 that there would be no shortage of electricity in the state as the electricity generated was more than the demand. He had also stated that  urban areas will receive 24 hour power supply while rural areas will be supplied power for 18 hours. However, within less than a month, he has taken a U-Turn and has announced load shedding.
