Lions Club of Valencia along with St Agnes College observed St Agnes College Vanamahotsava

Mangalore: Lions Club Valencia in association with St Agnes College Bendur observed “Vanamahotsava” by planting saplings on the road median in front of the St Agnes College, Bendur here on Sunday, July 27.

Vice Principal of St Agnes College Sr Supriya  and President of Lions Club Valencia-Violet Pereira, inaugurated the Vanamahotsava by symbolically planting a sapling.

 

Inaugurating the Vanamohotsava Sr Supriya said, “By planting saplings we can beautify the surroundings and increase greenery in the locality. Lions Club Valencia have shown interest in planting saplings in front of the church and the college, which  is a good gesture from the club to implement such a noble deed. Plants/trees increases the beauty of the surrounding and make it look more green. By planting saplings we can get fresh air, let us all join hands in beautifying our surrounding by planting saplings”.

Dean of Commerce and Management Prof Prabha Devi Alva speaking on the occasion said that we have to reduce waste and increase greenery. Prabha also said that there is no proper footpath in the area, funds have been sanctioned but till today no one has turned up to start the footpath work. She urged the Club members to put their efforts in pressurizing the concerned authorities to start the footpath work as soon as possible. There are thousands of students who use this road everyday while commuting to college, they walk on the road instead of walking on the footpath. She also assured her full co-operation in beautifying the area. All students shouted slogans for a clean and green city, “Go Green”.

Ln Violet Pereira speaking on the occasion said that this year the forest department has donated saplings and if anyone wants to plant saplings, the forest department will be happy to provide the required quantity. Further she said that planting a tree would improve the environment and decrease energy costs.  Planting trees would enhance the quality of life and give fresh air and thus help in improving the health of the community.

Members of Lions Club of Valencia joined in planting the saplings. Secretary Lions Club of Valencia, Sophia Bidary delivered the vote of thanks.
