Mangaluru: The Chairman of Manipal Global Education Services T.V. Mohandas Pai on Thursday, said that the constitutional provisions and the case law were clear that the linguistic minorities should be treated on par with religious minorities. But this was not being followed and the fundamental rights were being denied to Konkani community.
Delivering the key-note address at the round-table conference on constitutional rights of Konkani Linguistic minorities here, he urged the linguistic minorities to fight for their rights.
He said detailed letters should be sent to Chief Minister, Minister for Minorities Affairs, Prime Minister and President of India highlighting the constitutional provisions and how different notifications on minorities were violative of those provisions. If this failed to yield desired results, the only alternative left would be to approach High Court or Supreme Court, he said.
