Sexual assault case: school reopens

Bengaluru: The school were the sexual assault of a six year old had taken place has reopened. It reopened Thursday, after being closed since Oct. 31st.

A  high school Hindi teacher, Jaishankar, identified as the culprit is in Judicial custody for the crime. As he was reportedly, the only Hindi teacher for Classes 8, 9 and 10, other teachers engaged his classes on Thursday.

Parents, though are worried about their children. Some are happy, while others are angry  that they did not get a chance to voice their concerns during Wednesday’s meeting with the management. In fact, many parents complained that they were not allowed inside the school on Thursday to see how security measures had been upgraded. Veena, whose daughter in LKG in the school, was however, relieved that the school had reopened.

S.M. Ramesh, Block Education Officer-South 4, said of the 1,119 admissions, 851 students in classes from nursery to Class 10 attended on Thursday. While Class 1 – to which the victim belongs- had the lowest attendance (74 per cent), the remaining classes recorded attendance of above 76 per cent. The victim is being counselled, Mr. Ramesh added.

The school had by Thursday installed 20 of the 90 CCTV cameras it had promised to set up  by Thursday morning.
