Mangalore: A public conference was organized by CPI(M) Dakshina Kannada District Committee along with the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and other organizations here on February 20, Thursday with a demand to legalize the Bagair Hukum land and allotment of land to the poor.
The Niveshana Rahitara Zilla Horata Samiti District Convenor K Yadav Shetty said that ministers in the district are not bothered about providing shelter to the poor and the landless.
As per the reports the government had sanctioned 2,000 acres of land to MRPL and 1,500 acres to SEZ, yet there is no welfare done in spite of the availability of 1, 152 acre of land, he added.
Addressing the gathering CPM State Committee Convenor Vasanth Achari said land mafia was reigning in the district and alleged that both Congress and BJP leaders were very much involved in it.
He also stressed the need for a continuous fight until the demand was fulfilled.
