Puttur : The Fifth Additional District Sessions Court has convicted a man from Ubaradka Mittoor in Sullia taluk for hacking his pregnant wife to death two years ago. The convicted person is Karunaker Patali.

Patali who was into real estate business in Sullia had killed his wife Arunashree on February 21, 2011. An interesting aspect of the hearing into this case is that the sole witness, a woman had turned hostile. Still, the Public Prosecutor provided circumstantial evidence to the court and ensured that the guilty was punished.

The deceased woman Arunashree was from Sonangeri and was first married to one Arun Kumar. They even had a daughter. But within three to four years of marriage Arun realized that his wife was having an illicit affair with Patali and deserted her. Their daughter however remained with him.

Arunashree then began to have a live-in relationship with her lover Karunaker. They even  had a daughter. But soon even this relationship turned sour and Karunaker began to suspect Arunashrees fidelity.  He  then killed her using a wooden club on February 21, 2011. Arunashree was four months pregnant when she was murdered. The police had then arrested him on the basis of a complaint by Arunashrees brother who was informed by a neighbouring woman named Jayanthi, the sole witness in this case who  turned hostile.
