Udupi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) held an indefinite protest near the service bus stand here on Monday May 5 against the practice of ‘Pankti Bedha’ at Krishna Math in Udupi.

CPI (M) State secretary GV Sriram Reddy who addressed the protestors,  said that Pejawar Swamiji wants to only gain publicity  by visiting Dalit families and having food at their houses. “If  he  really is a great person then let him invite Dalits to his house(Mutt) and provide them food along  with Brahmins”, he challenged.

Reddy further  added that both the governments (Congress and BJP) failed to take a firm stand on the discriminatory practice. CPI (M) had  high hopes that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah  may ban the practices such as ‘Made Snana’ and ‘Pankti Bedha.’ But, that has not happened, he regretted.

During the BJP rule, the concept of Made Snana was wisely modified to Ede Snana. BJP can do nothing than playing with the sentiments of the people, he said

Reddy asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s reaction on Kabeer killing case at Sringeri by Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) personnel exposed its true colours. The BJP, by demanding withdrawal of compensation to the family of Kabeer has proved that it has no humanitarian concern, he said.

K S Shivarama state leader of, Hindulida Vargagala Jagrathi Vedike , said that ” The fight is not only for Vanitha Shetty, but such things which happen  with everyone”. Differentiating between people  in the name of some ritual is not right, he said.
