Mangaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has promised stringent action against police officers in connection to incident of lathi-charge on Popular Front of India activists and justice to Ahammed Quereshi, a victim to police atrocities in Mangaluru.

A delegation of the SDPI members had met the CM at his residence in Mysuru, on Friday. After giving a patient hearing to the SDPI members who condemned the police high-handedness, the CM said that the issue will be taken seriously and erring police officers will not be spared.

SDPI also urged CM to register criminal case against certain CCB sleuths, suspend them immediately and also ensure that the cases filed against the PFI activists are withdrawn.

Speaking to newskarnataka SDPI leader Haneef Khan Kondaje said that the CM assured them that by tomorrow evening he will gather information and take stringent action in this regard.

It may be recalled that the protest staged by the PFI members in Mangaluru couple of days ago turned ugly when the police resorted to wielding lathi at the protesters, who were seeking justice for Ahmed Qureshi, a painter from Surathkal, who the protesters said was assaulted by the police. In the lathi charge several protesters were injured.

Mysore SDPI leader Hamzad Khan and others were present.
