Mangaluru: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike blocked NH 66 at Talapady on Saturday February 6, opposing the amendment to Kerala Official Languages Act, 1969, according to which Malayalam will be the sole language of communication in government offices and official documents.
The amendment has been passed in the Kerala Assembly and is awaiting the consent of the governor.
Addressing the protestors, Spokesman of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Rahim Uchil demanded the resignation of the MLAs from Manjeshwar and Kasargod for as they reportedly did not stand for the Kannadigas in Kasargod. He said that when the duo and their supporters wooed the Kannadigas here during their election campaign however now they were least bothered. He cautioned that the Vedike would intensify its protests if the amendment comes into existence.
