Kasaragod: A 46-year-old labourer named Everest Rodrigues was found dead near a stone quarry in Lenkinadka in Kayyar on Sunday morning, July 31. The body was found by a woman who was passing by the place at around 11am and she immediately informed the police.
Everest’s wife had gone to Mangaluru while his children had been to their relatives house. Hence, the incident had not come to light. The police after inspecting the murder spot, identified the body. They are suspecting that he might have slipped and fallen and died.

Kumble police conducted mahajar at the spot and shifted the body to Kasaragod general hospital for autopsy.

Rodrigues had worked as a bus driver in Kasaragod and Mangaluru for several years and started working as a labourer from the last few years. In September, he was supposed to leave for job to a gulf country. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Meanwhile, the locals have alleged that open pits at the red stone quarry is a reason for the deaths.
