Udupi : Preparations are underway to install a 32 feet tall monolithic statue of Sri Madhwacharya at Kunjarugiri near Pajaka Kshetra where the saint philosopher spent his childhood days. The monolithic marble statue is planned to be installed at the site as per the decision taken by Sri Vidyadhisha Theertha Swamiji of Phalimar Mutt.
The marble required to sculpt the statue is already on way to Udupi from Doddaballapur in Bangalore. Balaram Bhat, Manager of the Mutt said the marble weighing 180 tonnes is being transported in a 120 tyred puller and three trailers. The vehicle is over 100 feet long and will reach Udupi via Chitradurga, Davangera, Hubli, Ankola, Bhatkal, Kundapur and Anegudde.
Special prayers would be offered to the marble at Anegudde and at Udupi it would be given a rousing welcome near Karavali bye-pass at 3 pm on Wednesday.It will then be taken in a procession to Katapady Subhashnagar. Hundreds of vehicles are expected to take part.Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Phalimar Mutt too will participate.
At Kunjarugiri, the works of erecting an eight feet tall platform weighing 80 tonnes is in the final stages. The statue will be installed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crores and will be sculpted by the renowned national award winning sculptor Ashok Gudigar.
