Kundapur : Heroin worth nearly Rs 2 crores was seized by the excise officials in a raid on a prominent hotel at Hemmady in Kundapur on April 18, Thursday. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the case. The officials have also seized three mobile phones from the accused.
The raid was led by District Excise Deputy Commissioner George Pinto. Those arrested are Divakar Devadiga (39) of Shirali in Bhatkal, Sudhir Hegde (29), a resident of Kharvi Madhyakeri, Kundapur and another person from Belgaum.
The raid was not made public till evening by the authorities. It is learnt, the trio was thoroughly grilled when it came to light that the heroin was brought from Bangalore by a person from Mangalore and that they intended to hand it over to a person from Belgaum.
Search for the kingpin of this racket is on. The raiding team included Kundapur excise circle inspector A P Shankar Poojary, sub-inspector Shubhada, Kundapur tahsildar Thippeswamy, revenue officer Shankar Shetty, Hemmadi village accountant Kantaraju and Tallur village accountant Raghavendra.
