Newskarnataka – Kasargod

Kasargod April 13: The 8th kannada Sahitya sammmelan was organised by Kannada Sahitya Parishad Kerala Border at Kumbala, St Monica Educational institution. It began with a flag hoisting by Rev Fr Marcel Saldanha, the parish priest of St Monica Church.

In his presidential address Retired professor, writer, dramatist, Dr Na Damodara Shetty insisted on the promotion of Kanada along with other languages. We should not impose other culture into the minds of natives of Kasargod. Migrated people should live cordially along with the locals. They should understand the local language, culture and live peacefully.

He added by saying that the local literary works should be translated into different languages. Many Malayalam works are translated into kannada but only few kannada works have been translated into Malayalam. Thus leaves an indication that kannada has been neglected.

Famous writer, national award winner, film director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar inaugurated this event. Soon after the inauguration exhibition of books, painting was organized. Some new books were also released on the occasion.
