Krishna Mutt was always under Ashta Mutt control : Pejawar seer

Udupi: The Sri Krishna Mutt was under government control and  former CM Yeddyurappa denotified it is a wrong notion. Sri Krishna Mutt has remained under the control of the Ashta Mutts itself right from the beginning, clarified Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar mutt.

Addressing a press meet at the Mutt on June 11, Tuesday, the seer said the Sri Krishna Mutt has never been notified like the Kollur and Subrahmanya Temples. During the Chief Ministership of S M Krishna, a  lower division officer had included the Sri Krishna Mutt in the list of temples to be notified,  with ulterior motives without  informing even the higher authorities. SM Krishna who came to know about it later decided to denotify the Krishna Mutt. But by then his tenure had ended, the seer recalled. Though there were efforts to denotify Krishna Mutt during the Dharam Singh regime, even that was not possible and finally the Mutt was denotified during the Chief Ministership of  Yeddyurappa, he said.

He further said that a lower level officer had in fact notified the Krishna  Mutt  just because a demand for a bribe with the then Paryaya Swamiji was turned down,” the seer alleged. “It should be noted that  by denotifying, a folly committed by an officer was only rectified by doing so,” the Pejawar seer said.

“ No religious head will be ready to work as a government worker under a government officer,” the seer said and added  , it is not justifiable on the part of the government to plan to acquire the Krishna Mutt  belonging to minority Madhwa tradition without touching Shringeri, Adichunchanagiri or Dharmasthala temples, he said.
