Mangaluru: Krishi Bhoomi Samrakshana Samiti President Madhukar Amin has said that, the villagers of Permude, Tenka Yekkaru, Kutthetthuru and Delanthabettu are strongly opposing the land acquisition for the fourth phase of extension of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL).

In a press conference on Saturday, he said that, in 2011 MRPL had acquired and de-notified 2035 acres of land from the farmers, and once again they are trying to acquire land.

“People from Permude and Kutthetthuru held a ‘Grama Sabha’ in which they have unanimously decided to oppose MRPL’s land acquiring process. MRPL is trying to encash the innocence of villagers, but we won’t let it happen,” he said.

“Moreover Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) is giving wrong information to the government by saying that the people of Mangaluru are ready to give their land for industrial purposes,” he added.

Samiti Vice President Hemalatha Bhat alleged that, the land acquired by MSEZ is being sold. Around 8000 acres of land has been sold by MSEZ to other companies.

Samiti Secretary Lawrence D’Cunha and Vice President William D’Souza were present.
