Mangaluru: The president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Roy Castelino released the progress card of 2014-2015. The academy, according to Roy spent Rs. 1.10 lac to carry out many programs.
He was addressing the press on Monday here at Woodlands. During the meet he informed the press about programs the academy undertook last year.

The academy organized many events in the interest of publicizing Konkani language across the state. In the month of March the academy carried out an awareness campaign on Konkani, while in April and May, they convened an annual meeting of Konkani teachers and launched a program that would undertake the release of at least two books a month, Roy read from the report.
However in July the academy formed a club called the Konkani club and in August they launched Konkani Manyata Divas (Konkani recognition day) to celebrate the day on which the language was recognized as national language. Roy further added that in December the government institution for Konkani convened a Konkani literature convention.
Apart from this the academy gifted as many as 250 books to the library of Mangalore University. In a press release, Roy said from March 15-17, 2015 they would be organizing the Konkani Porab (Konkani Festival) at Honnavar.
Roy said the expenditure borne for these events was Rs. 1.10 lakhs, of the allotted fund of Rs. 1.20 lakhs. He expressed that the academy was reeling under a fund crunch due to which either they have to cut down the events or increase the allocation for this year.
