Mangaluru: The Bantwal town police have registered a complaint against co-convener of Bantwal Bajrang Dal, Bhuvit Shetty for allegedly defaming district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai by posting a photo of the minister on facebook.

The complaint was filed by Prashant Kulal. The complaint said, accused Bhuvit Shetty posted a photo of Ramanath Rai donning a saffron shawl on his shoulder. The photo posted on Shetty’s facebook wall received derogatory comments, which according to the complainant defamed Rai.

The accused, speaking to Newskarnataka said he had posted without any ill intentions of defaming the minister. “I found the photo amusing as a secular minister sported saffron, the color which the minister is allergic to.” He further said, he was not responsible for the comments posted by the facebook account visitors.

The police have booked a case under section 66 (A) of the Indian Penal Code.
