Konkani kids theatre fest RumRum Po-2013 in city

Mangalore: A two-day Konkani Childrens Theatre Festival “RumRum Po-2013” will be held  at Town Hall  on October 16 and 17  under the aegis of the  World Konkani Centre Mangalore.The festival will commence  at 5.30 pm.

Informing this to reporters here on October 15, Tuesday, Gurudutt Baliga, Director of World Konkani Centre said a total of seven childrens plays of 30 minutes duration will be staged during the festival. Childrens theatrical groups from seven Konkani speaking communities will present the plays in their respective Konkani dialects.

 

The festival aimed at showcasing the rich folk tradition of Konkani  has been organised in tune with the World Konkani Centre motto”Integration through Language.”

Jagan Pawar Bekal, noted theatre personality is the Principal Director of the Festival, Baliga informed.

President World Konkani Centre Basti Vaman Shenoy, poet Melvyn Rodrigues and coordinator of the Festival Prakash Shenoy were present at the press meet.

The following plays will be staged  on the two days : October 16 -“Dharyachi Maya” (Witch of the Sea), based on a Konkani folk tale. The play will be presented by All India Konkani Kharvi Mahajana Sabha, a Konkani Kharvi community children’s group.

“Chithal Thondacho Ghov” (Groom with a Deer Face),  a  folk tale from Kudal Deshkar community. Children from Shri Poornananda Seva Prathistan, Mangalore will present the play.

“Ajyapachi Mudhi” (A Miraculous Ring), based on a folk tale from the Roman Catholic community by Amritha Social Trust, Shaktinagar.

October 17 : “Vaag Devachi Khatha” (Story of the Tiger God), based on a  folk tale from Kudubi community. The play will be staged by Kudubi Samajodharaka Sangha members.

“Bhangrache Kes” (Golden Hair) by Bhalavalikar RSB community.Shri Durga Mahila Mandali, Manchi will stage the play.

“Manthu and Rakshini” (Uncle and the Ogress) play  by children from Chaptekar Saraswath Seva Samaj, Mangalore.

“Navarangi Fool” (Nine-coloured Flower) by Sadhana Balaga, Mangalore.
