KIOCL develops tree park at Pilikula Nisargadhama

Mangaluru: In order to protect environment, Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) has developed a tree park at Dr Shivarama Karanatha Pilikula Nisargadhama under its Corporate Social Responsibility Z(CSR) activities.

Chairman and Managing Director of KIOCL M V Subba Rao stated that over 4,000 trees have been raised on 15 acres at the Nisargadhama at a cost of Rs 40 lakh. The tree park scheme has been implemented to preserve the diversity of the western ghats.

The company with help from forest department has planted 2,100 trees at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh, covering different parts of the city. A solar power plant of 1.3 MW capacity is coming up at a cost of Rs 6.7 crore on its blast furnace unit premises, which is nearing completion. This is a significant contribution from KIOCL in generating green energy, informed Subba Rao.
