Bantwal: Woman’s Day is round the corner where each one remembers the role of a woman as a mother, housewife, employee, social worker and many more. In simple terms, women of today are multifaceted, ready to accept challenges of modern times to scale heights in personal and professional lives, simultaneously carrying out roles as good home makers.

Life is never easy for many women from ordinary backgrounds, especially from rural areas. Despite her commitments on upbringing children accompanied by strained financial condition, Nalini Jogi is an exception.

An Asha worker (Asha Rehab Centres provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy to children affected by Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other neurological challenges), Nalini Jogi is ready to embark on a journey to China to represent the nation in 40 plus age group in the International Master’s Athletic meet. She has been a regular winner of Master’s Athletic Association sports meets over the last three years. She has been chosen to represent the country after she stood fifth in the national level competitions this year.

Nalini Jogi, a resident of Benjinapadav in Bantwal taluk has three children, her husband being a daily wager. Nalini Jogi does not lack the drive to achieve. It was Bhavani Jogi who dragged Nalini into the field of sports after watching her committed track performances. Later, Nalini stood first in the state level athletic meet held at Mangalore in the 400 M and 200 M sprint events. She qualified automatically to represent state in the national level sports meet in Telangana in the 40 plus age group. Despite being ranked fifth, she qualified to represent India at China during October 2017 based on tournament’s eligibility criteria.

Nalini Jogi is looking for donors at this juncture to support her to achieve more in the coming days. Despite her sterling performances at school level, poverty crushed Nalini’s dream then.

Failures did not deter this humble Asha Worker on her road to success. Hurdles associated with family life only strengthened her resolve to fight against odds.

Nalini is an active member of self help group associated with Prajna Counselling Centre and her drive and dedication is for all the rest to emulate, says the centre’s coordinator William Samuel, appreciating her feats.
