Mangalore: State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader has demanded a clarification from the BJP for opposing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Addressing press persons on Wednesday, April 2, Khader strongly criticised the statement of BJP leader Subrahmaniam Swamy that the party will scrap the scheme if the BJP came to power. The Minister said it was unwelcome on the part of the BJP to state so with regard to a scheme which helped youth by generating employment.
He said thousands of people are eking out a living owing to the scheme and added the scheme has also enlightened the rural masses about banking transactions. It is not proper for the BJP to state that it would cancel such a scheme, Khader remarked.
He said thousands are expected to participate in the election rally to be addressed by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in the district.
District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, Eshwar Ullal, Sadashiva Ullal and others were present.
