Kasargod: The special investigation team nabbed one person in connection with highway robbery case on August 27. In the incident a jeweler was robbed of Rs 2.7 crore in cash on August 7. The police are on look out for nine other gang members involved in the crime.
NK Mridul, aged 23, a foot ball player and a canteen operator in Bengaluru is the arrested person.
It is learnt, Renil of Koothuparamba is the kingpin of the robbery. Police have gathered information on all other accused and are confident of nabbing all of them in the next few days. Residents of Koothaparamba Sayuj and Tittu are among the accused in the case where five are directly involved.
Arrested Mridul benefited Rs 20 lakhs from the robbed booty.
The accused had chased the jeweler’s car from Talpady. In the incident Ganesh, a jeweler, was on his way from Pune to Tellicherry in his Innova car. He was carrying the cash to deliver it to a jeweler in Tellicherry. At Cherkala, another car hit Ganesh’s car and five persons waylaid him and took away the money.
Vidyanagar police had registered a case based on the late complaint from Ganesh. The incident took place on August 7, but the complaint was filed on August 20.
