Kasargod cops arrest man for selling pen cigarettes to students

Kasargod : Kasargod Town Police have arrested one person who was selling  pens with cigarette inside it to students in the town. The arrested man is KA Ali (44) of Anangur.

The accused ran a shop close by a school in the town and used to allegedly sell cigarettes hidden inside pens to students.  Police have seized as many as 20 foreign made pen cigarettes and other tobacco products from him. The illegal activity came to light when a pen cigarette was found at the residence of a student from a school in the town. The parents had passed on the information to school teachers. On inspection at the school, teachers found similar cigarette pens with many other students.

The police were immediately informed and the police launched a search in shops in the vicinity of the school and soon detected the pen cigarettes and other tobacco products from the shop.

The plastic made pen had cigarette inside it which could be noticed only if the top was removed. It is learnt, a packet had five pen cigarettes in it. Students have informed the police that the cigarettes available in  grapes, vanilla, chocolate  and other colours were sold at Rs 10 to Rs 15 per  packet.

The arrested man has admitted that he had brought the pen cigarettes from Kozhikode. The cigarette packets have been sent to forensic lab for examination.
