Mangaluru: The coastal city again witnessed an adventurous manifestation of skills by Jyothi Raj alias Koti Rama from Chitradurga on Sunday. Affectionetly called as monkey man and Karnataka’s Spiderman, he wowed the on looking crowd by climbing city’s tallest building of Inland Windors, which is located on Airport Road near Padavinangady.

Jyothi Raj, who wanted to climb without any support was advised to use rope for safety. He climbed the first three floors, without any support and went on climbing the 80-metre high, 24-floors, without any support except the rope for safety. As he reached the highest floor, the climb who keenly watched his stunning skills, acclaimed with loud applause. He waved the flag of Karnataka on the roof.

Later, speaking to the media, he said that it was the tallest building that he attempted so far. I had successfully climbed TV Tower in Bengaluru which is about 23 floors. I have scaled taller structures like the boulder in Ramanagara which is about 1,200ft”, he said.

Jyothi gets the credit of scaling the Chitradurga Fort without safety harnesses. He was also the only person to scale the 830-foot Jog Falls, starting from below against the flow of water. Currently, Raj is training at Chitradurga Fort for this mega-effort.

This is not his first attempt in Mangaluru. On September 2012, he had left police in a tizzy when he scaled the 10-storey Shalini Enclave on PVS Kalakunj Road much to the surprise of residents.

Then the monkey man went to Udupi on the invitation of Ashok Kadabettu, a “huli veshadhari”, to perform acrobatics at Udupi Nehru Maidan. On that trip, he took a pit stop at Mangaluru and attempted to climb the PVS Building here. But it did not materialize as the building authorities denied permission.

Later, In-Land Infrastructure Developers CMD Siraj Ahmed congratulated Jyothi Raj. He also honored the Spiderman with a memento and Rs. 1 lakh cash.
