Udupi : BJP’s Gujarat model of development  is a  inconsistent one and the best is Karnataka model, said  Luizinho Faleiro, former chief minister of Goa and AICC General Secretary.

During his visit to Udupi on Monday April 14, he  appealed to the people to “support Congress party and its candidates for uplifting the culture, harmony and identity of the state.”

While speaking to the media he said that Udupi is known for its tradition, culture and harmony.  Pointing out that 50 % of the population of  Goa belong to Karnataka, he said  Kannadigas  are very peace loving people.

He added that “the opposition is promising  to provide a Gujarat model state here. However,  does not need Gujarat model because the state has high growth economically”.

Gujarat model  supports corporates and  industrialists and not  poor or farmers. Lands were acquired from the farmers and sold to big industrialists at throwaway prices in Gujarat, he alleged.

The number of persons below the poverty line (BPL) in Gujarat, which was 32.5 per cent in 2001, had risen to 39.2 per cent now, Faleiro further said.

The then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had termed the Godhra riots as “national shame”. Vajpayee had even asked how he could face leaders of other countries due to the Godhra riots,  Faleiro said.
