Mangalore: The Akhila Bharatha Karmika Sangha staged a protest in the city on December 6, Friday demanding extension of Employees State Insurance facility to all villages of the district and thereby ensure health security to the workers and their families.
Addressing the protestors, Sudatta Jain, trade union leader demanded that the honorarium provided to the Gram Panchayat members of the district be increased to Rs 6000. He also urged the authorities to put an end to corruption at the Panchayat level.
He also informed on the occasion that the Karmika Sangha will embark on a Padayatra from near the DC office in Mangalore to the Karmikara Bhavan in Bangalore on May Day to protest against the ESIC which has failed to provide health security to the workers and also to oppose the government’s apathy towards the demands of the working class.
