Mangaluru: The family members of slain RTI activist Vinayak Baliga, along with supporters staged a stir outside the residence of Mangaluru south MLA JR Lobo’s house, on Monday, June 6. The protesters were taken into custody by the police and released later.

The protest march that began from Jyoti Circle was stopped by the Kadri police at a junction near Lobo’s residence and the protesters were taken to the station.
DYFI leader Muneer Katipalla resisted resulting in a brief period of commotion.

However, speaking to reporters later, rationalist Prof Narendra Nayak, who is spearheading the movement for justice for Baliga’s family said that there are a lot of people who are protecting Naresh Shenoy, who is prime accused in the murder case.

“Naresh Shenoy is only a pawn in the game. There are big sharks operating from Kerala who are behind many murders that have taken place in the country. Several big names in the society are a part of this huge mafia,” said Prof Nayak adding that the movement will continue till justice is rendered.

Muneer Katipalla said that the state government is making sure that the probe into the case goes on at snail’s pace and none other than the Home Minister himself is safeguarding Naresh Shenoy.

Vinayak Baliga’s sister Usha, DYFI district president Dayanand Shetty, DSS leader M Devdas among others were present.
