Journos don mythological characters in ‘Shakrari Kalaga’ to mass whistles

Mangaluru: They are not professional Yakshagana artistes. However, their amazing performance enthralled the audience. Though their performance did not match that of professional artistes, the audience was happy.

Usually, journalists are always busy with press conferences, penning articles, breaking stories among others. However, for a change, the news breakers became news themselves on Sunday, December 17 as some Yakshagana enthusiasts, press persons performed an Yakshagana`at Kadri Rajangana on Sunday, December 16

The Yakshagana programme was organised as part of the decennial programme of ‘Kadri Bala Yaksha Koota.’ The prasanga of Yakshagana was ‘Shakrari Kalaga.’ Kadri Navaneeth Shetty of Times of India performed the role of Ravana and Kishore Bhat Komme of Vishwavani newspaper performed Indrajit. Other mediapersons Sandesh Shetty Ardy of Prajavani performed the role of Rama, Ganesh Mavanji of News Karnataka donned Lakshmana’s role, Jithendra Kundeshwara of Vishwavani newspaper Hanumantha, Raghav of ‘The Hindu’ newspaper Sugreeva, Harsha of Deccan Herald newspaper Jambavantha and Suresh Vamanjoor of Coastal Digest Shukracharya, Indira N K of Karavali Ale performed multiple roles of Maya, Seethe and Sharabha, Rajesh Kidoor of Hosa Digantha enacted Nala, Azad Khandiga of Vartha Bharathi as Vibheeshana. `Comedy Khilady` fame Suraj performed as `Dhoota` which was the special attraction of the Yakshagana programme.

The programme was conducted under the direction of Elluru Ramachandra Rao.
