Mangaluru: Condemning the assault on media persons by the supporters of Madoor Yusuf, who was murdered in jail recently, Dakshina Kannada District working Journalists Union staged a protest near the DC office on Tuesday, November 3.

Addressing the protesters, journalist Ravindra Shetty said that scribes in Mangaluru do not have a conducive atmosphere to work as there is no security. “Earlier media persons were assaulted while covering Prashanth Poojary murder case. The Police Department and the District Administration should provide protection so that journalists can discharge their duties freely,” he said.
Senior reporter Taranath said that frequent attacks on media persons highlighted the inefficiency of the Police Department. “It is the duty of the police to provide adequate security at vantage points during any untoward situation. The police must take a cue from the recent incidents and work towards strengthening its force”, he said.
Journalist Harish Rai urged the media to stay united and fight for justice.
Arif Padubidri, Jitendra Kundeshwar and representatives from various media houses were present. A memorandum regarding the incident was then submitted to the DC.
