Mangalore: The Culture Camp for children, organized by Mandd Sobhann, in association with Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and ‘Raknno’ weekly, was held from April 21 to 29, and May 3 & 4, under the title ‘Jillmillchim Taram’. Th event ended with a grand concluding ceremony on Sun., May 4, at Kalaangann, at 6 p.m..
The Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax Officer, Steven MP Dias was the Chief Guest for the event. He congratulated the 68 children who participated in the camp and said that parents should motivate their children to participate in such camps, so that their talents is nurtured. Guest of Honour, Roy Castelino, the President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Akademi, applauded the children for their active participation in the camp and also wished them the best for their performances.
Kevin Sunil D’Silva, President, MCC Qatar, was present as a Guest of Honour. Eric Ozario, the Director of the camp & Louis J. Pinto, President, Mandd Sobhann – were also present on stage. On behalf of all the participants, Sheldon Tauro and Shwetha Vas, shared their experiences with regards to the participation in the camp.
Certificates were distributed to all the participants of the Culture Camp. The best in each category – Stalin D’Souza (Singing), Franie Lamita Fernandes (Dance) and Ashel Maria D’Silva (Theatre) – were honoured with a Certificate, a bouquet and cash prize of Rs. 1,000/- each. Salomi Alvares bagged the Best Camper Award and was honoured with a Certificate, bouquet of flowers and a cash prize of Rs. 3,000/-. The trainers of the camp – Ruth Lobo, Dylan Caldeira, Lenoy Lobo, Lavita Lobo, Nandita Sequeira, Rahul Pinto, Ivan D’Silva, Rony Crasta and Preeti Lopes, were honoured on the occasion.
The children then entertained the audience with Songs, Dances and a Skit at the 149th Monthly Theatre, which began at 6.30 p.m. This Monthly Theatre was sponsored by MCC – Qatar.
Sheldon Crasta compered the Concluding Ceremony, while Jason Lobo & Kripa Rasquinha (both children of the Camp) compered the Monthly Theatre.
