Mangaluru: The Supreme Court, on Monday, directed the Karnataka government to release 15,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu for the next 10 days to overcome the plight of farmers.
In a recent plea, Karnataka had sought a direction from Tamil Nadu to release 50.52 tmc feet of Cauvery water to save 40,000 acres of samba crops this season.
On the same issue of the Cauvery water being protected for Karnataka’s requirement, the Congress ministry in the state has utterly failed. CM Siddaramaiah had once stated that he would not give even a drop of water from Cauvery River to Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, an affidavit is filed before the Supreme Court that Karnataka will release water not less than 10,000 cusecs. This intention was questioned by senior Congress leader and former union minister Janardhan Poojary. Poojary demanded the resignation of M B Patil, Minister for Water Resources, Major and Medium Irrigation.
Addressing a press meet on 6 September 2016, Poojary accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for cheating whole population of the state by his misleading statement. Poojary also accused the CM for filing a highly mischievous affidavit to the Supreme Court and then behave as though he has not even seen the affidavit before filing the same.
As per the affidavit filed, a minimum of 10,000 cusecs of water should be released. The Supreme Court has thus ordered the release of 15,000 cusecs”. Poojary asked the CM, if it is right to criticise the Supreme Court.
Janardhana Poojary hurled a series of questions to Siddaramaiah. One among them was whether he required two days to file a revision petition before the Supreme Court and before doing so, if there was a necessity to consult all the parties. Poojary thus doubts the expertise of the experts in their offices.
“Siddaramaiah does not know whom to appoint as ministers for some of the most important portfolios. Before giving M B Patil the portfolio of the Minister for Water Resources, Major and Medium Irrigation, it looks like the CM has not given a good thought as to whom he is appointing to the ministry”, Poojary mentioned.
“M B Patil made a statement before the media and when he was questioned by a reporter, Patil retorted with a certain indecent word. Neither will the people of the state nor will God forgive him for using such abusive language”, he said.

Keeping a track of these events, Poojary demanded that Siddaramaiah should dismiss Patil himself if Patil fails to tender his resignation immediately. “This has to be done taking into consideration six Crore people of the state. Despite the entire state respecting Patil’s father, neither Karnataka nor the Congress Party need a person like Patil”, Said Poojary.
Even when it comes to giving contracts, M B Patil has given contracts only to contractors outside Karnataka state. “Is it because there weren’t anybody from within the state?” questioned Poojary.
Congress party has to stay in power but the party also has to make sure that the media does not have any misrule of the Government to point out. Poojary also pointed out to the CM that the media are not the Government’s rivals but they are just doing their job in pointing out mistakes of the Government.
“If the Chief Minister fails to ask MB Patil to submit his resignation, then it is time for the CM to fall from power”, Poojary warned.
