Mangaluru: Following the concerns of Tamilians on Jallikattu ban issue, the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts’ Kambla organizers and supporters have also raised their opinion on bringing a stay order to the ban on Kambla. A mega protest meet will be organized on January 28 where 50,000 people and 250 pairs of buffaloes are expected to be present at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri.

In a meeting held at Moodbidri on Sunday, 22 January, as many as 500 people representing buffalo owners, farmers, Kambla enthusiasts and jockeys were present to discuss about organizing a protest to remove ban on Kambla. “A one day peaceful protest will be conducted to put forth our opinions and raise our demands for lifting the ban on Kambla”, said Gunapal Kadamba who is a member in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Kambla organizing committee.
According to the resolutions of the meeting, the protest procession will start off at Swaraj Maidan and end at Kadalakere. The organizers are also roping in several academicians, film actors, politicians and sportsmen to join them in pressurizing the judiciary against Kambla ban.
In the meeting, Gunapal Kadamba also mentioned that buffaloes are fit enough to run on Kambla tracks without hurting themselves. “Several experts have said that the physical strength of the buffaloes make them fit to run on the track without physical abuse of any sorts”, he added.
The organizers of the protest are looking at trying to convince he Animal Welfare Board and Union Animal Husbandry Ministry in bringing a stay order on Kambla ban through special writ petitions.
