Mangalore : In yet another case of smuggling saffron, customs officials on September 4, Wednesday seized Iranian saffon weighing 10 kg and worth Rs 10 lakhs from a Kasargod man. The accused identified as Shukur Pallipuzhu (24) from Pallikere in Kasargod had arrived by a 10.30 am flight from Dubai. The saffron was hidden in two cartons in between clothes in his luggage. They were of Badiee brand.
The accused has been produced before the court. It is learnt he had been to Dubai on four earlier occasions and customs officials are yet to know if he had smuggled saffron during his previous visits.
The customs team which took part in the operation was led by CN Rajashekhar, Customs Superintendent.
