Mangalore : Beedi workers are on an indefinite dharna demanding  the payment of the hiked dearness allowance with effect from April 2014. The protest commenced in front of the Bharath Beedi Office at Kadri here on Tuesday August 12 under the auspices of the CITU.

The protestors alleged that the defective policies pursued by the governments had spiralled the cost of essential commodities including cooking gas as well as transportation charges. Beedi workers are hit hard due to  the soaring prices, they alleged.
