Mangaluru: Demanding a hike in minimum wage, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Dakshina Kannada unit held a protest at the Deputy Commissioner’s office today.

Addressing the gathering CITU General Secretary Vasanth Achari said, that the government should increase the minimum wages of organised and unorganised workers. It should give all the facilities to the workers who are working under contract basis.

“The government should increase the basic salary from Rs 10010 to Rs 15000. Otherwise we will hold protests against the government,” he said.

He further said that politicians have a lot of time to discuss about the Chief Minister’s watch, but nobody speaks about workers demands in the assembly.

“The BJP government is the reason behind the closure of manufacturing beedi. Either they should provide an alternative job for all beedi workers or else CITU will hold protest against the Central government also,” he added.

CITU District Vice President Jayanthi B Shetty and others were present.
