Illicit sexual relationship proves dear, accused gets two year jail term

Puttur: A man involved in illicit sexual relationship with his relative was sentenced to two years in jail and fined Rs 20,000 by the 6th additional district court in Mangaluru.

The accused, Thaniyappa of Shanthigodu village in Puttur taluk lured his relative, a girl from Marakkur Dasanamoole area within the same village limits by assuring her of marriage. Later he maintained sexual relationship with her for a year which eventually led to the woman giving birth to a baby boy on November 3, 2003.

Soon after, the accused escaped from the village and the woman sought police assistance and justice from the legal system. Puttur police registered a complaint against the accused and filed a report to court indicting Thaniyappa in the case.

The court after hearing the case found Thaniyappa guilty and imposed on him a jail term of 2 years and a fine of Rs 20,000.
