Bantwal : Officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department in Bantwal raided a shop at Tumbay where arrangements were underway to illegally transport in a lorry, the rice meant for distribution under Anna Bhagya Scheme through PDS. The lorry and the rice bags were seized on Friday June 6 and handed over to Bantwal Rural police. The lorry driver has been arrested.

The shop where the raid took place belonged to Ibrahim of Tumbay. It is learnt, Ibrahim who used to purchase the Anna Bhagya rice offered at Re 1 per kg, then transported it to Mangalore to sell it at a higher price.
Gathering information of the same, a team of officials led by Srinivas raided the place and seized 43 bags of rice each weighing 50 kg.
Though Ibrahim managed to flee, lorry driver Mohammad Basheer has been arrested. Investigations are in progress.
